Please find below the day-by-day programme for the 15-day mid-range tour through South Tanzania.
Day 1: Welcome to Tanzania.
Your driver/guide will be waiting for you at the airport as you arrive in Dar es Salaam. You will get a whirlwind look at the capital city as you cross it on your way to the hotel.
After an initial briefing about the trip you’ll have some time to unwind from your flight in your comfortable room at the Slipway Hotel.

Day 2: Travel to Selous National Park
In the morning, you can change your dollars or Euros into Tanzanian Shillings at the nearby forex bureau. Then you will set off to the southwest towards the largest game reserve in Africa.
Selous Game Reserve covers about 5% of the mainland of Tanzania and offers the ultimate safari experience. In the late afternoon you’ll arrive at the atmospheric Selous River Camp where you can settle in for the next three nights.

Day 3: Full-day Safari
After a light breakfast, you will go on a day-long adventure in search of beautiful landscapes and wildlife. Selous is home to elephant, buffalo, hippos, and crocodiles as well as fascinated packs of wild dogs. Around noon you’ll take a break at the side of a lake to enjoy your packed lunch and then drive through woodlands and grasslands back to the lodge watching for land- and water-based fauna along the way.

Day 4: Walking and Boat Safaris
In the morning you shall set off on a guided walking safari starting near the Rufiji River. The walk of two to three hours will bring you in close contact with nature and allows you to learn a lot about the tracks and droppings of wild animals.
In the afternoon you’ll get on the boat and go explore Selous from the water. The crocodiles and smiling hippos will be waiting for you as well as the abundant bird life here.

Day 5: Full Day Safari to North Selous
Today you travel to the northern side of the reserve via a beautiful en-route safari. There will be plenty of chances to stop and take photos of the amazing variety of wildlife. After another stop for a packed lunch, you continue north and will notice how the landscape changes from the drier woodlands into fertile green forests and hills. At the end of the afternoon you’ll arrive at the comfortable lodge located next to the river – a perfect place to unwind after the long drive.
Journey time: 4 to 5 hours

Day 6: Transfer to Mikumi
After breakfast you’ll be taking the rural road passing several remote villages where the locals are not used to seeing tourists. The destination for today is Mikumi National Park, set between the Uluguru and Udzungwa Mountains which provide amazing scenery. By the end of the afternoon you will reach the comfortable permanent tent camp featuring stunning views over the savannah.
Journey Time: 6 to 7 hours (depending on road conditions)

Day 7: On Safari in Mikumi
Mikumi is home to a completely different ecosystem than Selous or Ruaha; this park looks more like the great plains of the Serengeti. You will wake up early to eat breakfast and begin crisscrossing the savannah plains in search of resident wildebeests, giraffes, lions and many more. A hot lunch will be served at the camp followed by an optional late afternoon game drive.

Day 8: Travelling to Ruaha National Park
Today you will drive west through the town of Iringa to arrive at the best-kept secret in Tanzania: Ruaha National Park. This national wild ecosystem hosts ostrich, cheetah, kudu, and sable antelope, plus over 400 different species of birds. The rooms of tonight’s standard accommodation are a bit simple, but the location provides great views of the mountains and plains, especially from the raised bar/restaurant area. An upgrade in accommodation is possible (see below).

Day 9: Full-day Safari
Many call Ruaha “the best kept secret in Tanzania” because of its huge size, remote location, and extensive array of wildlife. The lifeline of this park is the great Ruaha River which attracts a lot of species, especially in the dry season. Today’s drive will take you into Ruaha for a full-day safari experience. You’ll arrive back at the accommodation at the end of the afternoon.

Day 10: Full-day safari in Ruaha
This vast park deserves at least two full days of safari. Today, you’ll dive back into Ruaha for a full day of game tracking to spot some of the species you might have missed yesterday. You’ll arrive back at the lodge in time for sunset with a cool drink.

Day 11: Travel to the Udzungwa Mountains
Leaving Ruaha behind, today’s journey will take you into the green fertile heart of Tanzania: the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Taking in the amazing views en route, you will arrive at the nice lodge near a famous waterfall. Here you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool and the formidable views of the sugar plantations.

Day 12: Hiking in the Udzungwa Mountains
This tropical green environment is the natural habitat of several endemic butterflies, birds and sanjemangabey monkeys. There are several wonderful hiking routes to take it all in, the most impressive of which is the sanje route. You can discuss with your guide which hike is best for you.

Day 13: Heading for the Coast
Saadani National Park is the only African wildlife park bordering the Indian Ocean! After a journey of about 7 hours you shall cross the Wami River and enter into the amazingly green foliage. A short game drive will take you to the white-sand beaches and sweeping palm trees where you will settle into the well-appointed beach-side cottages.

Day 14: Canoe Safari
The best and most surprising way to discover this park is from a canoe. After breakfast, you will take a canoe safari along the river where you can observe many unusual birds as well as crocodiles, elephants and gazelle. The afternoon is free to relax on the beautiful beach.

Day 15: Game drive back to Dar es Salaam
It is time to head back to where you started the trip, Dar es Salaam. You’ll have a last chance to see the flora and fauna on your way out of Saadani NP.
You will arrive at Dar in the course of the afternoon giving you plenty of time to pick out a nice place to dine and enjoy the last Swahili meal.
You will be dropped off at the airport in Dar es Salaam in the evening to catch your flight home or onward journey to one of the other exciting destinations in the region.
