Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s 2nd largest national park but Ruaha park is second to none in species diversity due to Ruaha’s unique location between hemispheres. Apart from the park’s diverse mammal species, Ruaha National Park is a birder’s paradise with 526 species & counting.
The Great Ruaha River is the only perennial river in Ruaha National Park and vital for Ruaha park through the long dry season. Ruaha is known for its large elephant and buffalo herds but its main attraction lies in its elegant and fey antelope residents that include the magnificent and proud sable and roan antelope. There are many smaller buck in the region too. Such a concentration of dinner ensures the presence of hungry predators such as the rare African Hunting Dog, lion, leopard and cheetah.
